Your Unclaimed Property?
Within the United States, Canada and various countries there exists unclaimed property laws which declare money, property, and other assets to be abandoned after a period of inactivity. This period of time varies from location to location and may vary between one and ten years. During this abandonment period hospitals, banks, insurance companies, utilities, brokerage firms, mutual funds, landlords, and other organizations are required to try to return the valuables to their rightful owners. If they are unsuccessful, they then turn the property over to the various state agencies charged with the responsibility of holding these assets until the rightful owner steps forward to claim them. Almost all agencies utilize these assets to fund various operations as they await the proper owner’s filing of claims. Many agencies will take the path of legal action in an attempt to claim these cherished assets. It is no wonder that these states will make the eventual claimant jump through hoops when they seek to recover their assets
